How members are appointed

  • Council members serve three-year terms, renewable once. Seats are allocated by region so that no single jurisdiction holds a majority.
  • Members are appointed by the Council on the nomination of its Independence and Conflicts Committee, after a written conflicts declaration.
  • The Certification Board is appointed by the Council for two-year terms. Its members do not take part in admissions where they have a professional or personal connection with the applicant.
  • The Registrar is appointed by the Secretariat and reports conflicts and time-limit compliance to the Council every quarter.

Independence safeguards

  • No Council or Board member is appointed by UNIONE™ as arbitrator, mediator or expert in a matter UNIONE™ administers while they serve, and for 12 months after.
  • Every member files a register of interests each January; the register is published on this page.
  • A member who has a connection with a party to a matter takes no part in any decision about it and does not see the file.
  • Council minutes on the Rules, fees and standards are summarised in the annual report published on the Statistics page.

Register of interests

Published each January for the year ahead. The first register is published with the confirmed membership of the Council and the Board.
